The Youth Community Development Team program is a nine-month leadership development program for high school juniors and seniors in the City of Harrisburg. Approximately 35 students from Bishop McDevitt, Harrisburg High School and Sci Tech High are selected to participate in the program annually by their teachers.
In addition to studying the course textbook, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey , the young students have the opportunity to fully execute a community service project including:
- Assessment of Need (within their demographic)
- Invitation to Non-Profits to submit Grant Applications
- Fund Raising
- Selection of Grant Recipient
- Presentation of Grant Award to Recipient Organization
Students are coached through each step of the process and encouraged to utilize teamwork, consensus building, and communication skills in their activities.
