PA Family Support Alliance - Pennsylvania’s premier child abuse prevention organization seeks community volunteers for membership on their Finance Committee.  Members should have a background in business and/or finance and be familiar with fiscal responsibilities that govern a non profit organization. Capital Area Girls on the Run is in need of volunteers to help staff their Spring 5K on Saturday, May 18th at Milton Hershey School.  This race celebrates the end of the Spring 2013 season and will include 365 girls, their running buddies, as well as family, friends, and community members (an anticipated 1,000 runners).  There are many opportunities to get involved such as set up, registration, kids activities, directing runners, tear down, and more!  Interested individuals should complete a brief sign up form at https://www.elleevance.com/beventLive.aspx?EventID=NBI09157850.  Make sure to check off “5K race staff” on the form.  Then the Volunteer Coordinator, Ritu Light, will then be in touch with more information.

Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA is seeking volunteers for its Defy the Odds  drop-out prevention program which was developed locally in to help combat PA’s high drop-out rates. The program was developed for girls in Grades K-5 and usually lasts 8 weeks, with a 1 hour session taking place each week -  volunteer opportunities are highly flexible!  Please contact Trish Mullinix at tmullinix@gshpa.org or call 717-884-4535 for more information.

Community Build Days

Leadership Harrisburg Area is calling all volunteers to help build an All-Access Fitness Trail on May 3 and 4 as part of the Adventure Zone Playground.  The Fitness Trail will accomodate wheelchairs, walkers and include exercise stations for children and adults of all abilities.

The help of  200 volunteers is needed to accomplish a variety of tasks throughout the two-day build including skilled and unskilled construction, child care, and food preparation and distribution.  There will be something for everyone to do, and no one will be turned away.

Age Restrictions:

  • 18 years and older: unsupervised
  • 14-17 years old:  no power tools
  • 10-13 years old:  no tools
  • 9 and under: in childcare

The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank is looking for people with Human Resources expertise to serve on their Human Resources committee.
